I.

where have you gone now?

II.

standing in a room with everyone once so lovely, now so cheap.
with their pants down around their ankles and their eyes: so vacant.

"did you get all the pretty presents that you wanted?"

did you? did you?
did you get the pretty presents?
can you feel the petty present?

"this is ___. you must know him. you live in the same squabble town. haven't you met him on the train?"

underground, underwater? in the bell jar? in the beehive? in the bar?

"can't you breathe? is the knife too shallow?
let me put it in -

deeper, deeper."

III.

let's strangle each other to death!

"your neck so thin."
"your hands so strong."

(the kind of neck i'd love to choke. the kind of girl i'd love to stroke).

IV.

Didn't you want me all at once? Don't you?

Don't you love me? Don't you?

Why not? Why not? Why not?

I know I want you, but I'm waiting my turn.

Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, and Georgia all in 24 hours.

Woke up smiling. After a very long, challenging semester, a week of finals, and a last minute road trip… I am finally heading home.

Hallelujah!

so deeply saddened and angered by the events in Newton, CT today. my prayers, tears, and heart are with those families, children, staff, and public service members.

the world's brokenness weighs heavy on me today.

He soon felt that the fulfillment of his desires gave him only one grain of the mountain of happiness he had expected. This fulfillment showed him the eternal error men make in imagining that their happiness depends upon the realization of their desires.

November.

This morning, at Port Authority
after a last cup of coffee,
deposited _____.

"It was a joy to have you here."
(In truth, happy to see you go.)

Drink and smoke too much,
company and when you're around.

I really am not very good.

Though we had fun.
Bread and cheese holidays,
waterfronts, a long walk.

Sang on the roof.
Got drunk.

Nevertheless,
spent too much.

Kicking myself.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Mallory.
Sometimes she was happy, sometimes she was sad.

The end.

Conjuring up my melancholy
No that can't go on.
Certain my sadness was necessary
Oh I've been so wrong.

Stop all that dark and senseless brooding.
Sing a different song.

Dear and the Headlights

November 7, 2012

I live in New York, and I was thinking about the lagoon in Central Park, down near Central Park South. I was wondering if it would be frozen over when I got home, and if it was, where did the ducks go? I was wondering where the ducks went when the lagoon got all icy and frozen over. I wondered if some guy came in a truck and took them away to the zoo or something. Or if they just flew away.

Your mind is like a giant outdoor music festival filled with dentists who are holding drills and you keep running into old best friends from middle school and running out of things to say and, oh my god, is that your ex over there? Why are there giant families huddled in a food court? YOU'RE TRAPPED. AND EVERYONE HERE IS RICH.

Hurricane Sandy has confined New York (and myself) to our respective homes. The streets of Brooklyn Heights grew eerily empty after 7pm, when we had all finished scouring the video and alcohol stores (and maybe Trader Joe's too). I'm enjoying the forced hibernation with a stack of The New Yorker, good movies, tea, and letter writing. Now I can only pray that tomorrow's classes (and Wednesday's?) are cancelled too. In the meantime, Nutella pancakes!
